Product Overview

The MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) is an innovative wastewater treatment device that combines membrane separation technology with conventional activated sludge process. SUN EURO POLO's MBR systems utilize hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes or flat sheet membrane modules with pore sizes typically ranging from 0.03 to 0.1 microns, effectively retaining activated sludge, bacteria, viruses, and most organic matter. The system treatment capacity ranges from 10 m³/day to 5,000 m³/day, suitable for various food processing wastewater types including dairy, meat processing, beverages, and grain & oil processing industries. The MBR system produces excellent effluent quality that can be directly reused for production cleaning, landscape irrigation, or discharged to natural water bodies in compliance with regulatory standards.

Working Principle

The MBR membrane bioreactor organically integrates biological degradation and membrane filtration processes within a single reactor. Food processing wastewater first undergoes pre-treatment (including bar screen interception, oil separation settling, and dissolved air flotation) to remove large particulate impurities and oils before entering the MBR reactor. Inside the reactor, high-concentration activated sludge degrades organic pollutants-including proteins, fats, and carbohydrates-through microbial metabolism under aeration conditions. Unlike conventional activated sludge processes, the MBR system does not use secondary clarifiers for solid-liquid separation; instead, it achieves highly efficient separation through the physical filtration action of membrane modules. The membrane modules are immersed in the mixed liquor, and under negative pressure created by suction pumps, treated clean water permeates through the membrane pores while activated sludge is completely retained within the reactor, maintaining extremely high sludge concentrations (typically 8,000 to 15,000 mg/L), far exceeding the 3,000 to 5,000 mg/L of conventional processes. Periodic backwashing and online chemical cleaning restore membrane flux to ensure long-term stable system operation.
